Twenty two minutes. [ And true to the agreement, she shows up 22 minutes later with a knock on Sieglinde's door. Should the door open, Lucina's standing with the old, blue uniform coat from ALASTAIR, and a a gift box ( inside with a dessert recipe book, an apron, and a hair piece ) in her hand. ]
Sieglinde. [ There's a small smile, and a nod. ] I wished to give you your birthday gift. [ First. ]
[Sieglinde was a woman of science, and she knew her timeframes. Ten minutes to finish up her current experiment, six to tidy up the space, four to finish recording the results, and two to fix her clothes.
Which means she's ready to open the door and greet Lucina, smiling obliviously... having thought both correctly and incorrectly that this must be about her birthday.]
Lucina, thank you! Oh- do come in, come in...
[It was only appropriate she be a good host if she was receiving a gift, after all!]
If you wouldn't mind. [ ( She's only bracing herself for the inevitable, now. Less and less reasons for her to avoid it, not that she plans to. )
And Sieglinde's space is, as always, an organized chaos, with a menagerie of things that Lucina will never know the names of. Some part of her already hates that this may very well be the last time she sees this — another part of her hopes that it stays this way.
Soon. She'll say it — soon. ] I do hope I'm not intruding.
[Sieglinde is quick to say it, all too quick to toddle about with her distinctive, careful gait to clear a space at the table, to make as if she will set out a drink, at least, like a good host, as if this were a normal day.]
I was merely testing a resin I was formulating for one of our number, but it can be easily taken up again later, there is no rush.
[They had at least a week remaining on the ship, and there was so much that could be done in that time... maybe even another baking session... !]
[ She's not ... entirely sure what the resin could be for, but she knows better than to ask. There's more prudent topics to cover, anyway, whether she likes it or not.
So she nods. Lets a beat of silence pass, and then another. Reaches over to help Sieglinde clear some of the clutter away, careful not to disturb anything that seems important.
As they shift things around— she finally lets out a quiet breath. It only gets harder as the time passes, she should have known. ] I come ... bearing news. [ Lucina knows Sieglinde will know the moment she says this. But there's no better way to start. ]
[No rush on that resin, and no need to ask. She’ll find out later how true that is, when she tries to contact the person in question to give it to them, only for their name to turn up on a list of transfers.
A list that does come to mind, when Lucina’s words register. News. People didn’t say it like that unless it was bad news. Didn’t say it with a quiet sigh and didn’t say it after silence like that.
... so it wasn’t just about her birthday, then.
Though her motions slow, stutter, Sieglinde recovers, continuing to clear the table, to move to put away some notes and fetch a drink at least. There should be a drink.]
... what news?
[But perhaps she’d just assumed too much because of Asher’s departure. Maybe she was wrong-]
[ It was a foolish promise, she knows. But as someone who had bucked against fate and succeeded, it felt so natural to her at the time ( and continued to feel natural, as everyone around her left one by one. At least she was still here, at least she could continue what they've left ). To the point that she began to forget that it really was just a random chance, sometimes.
So, here she is. There's another pause that stretches the room, before she says as diplomatically and calmly as possible— ] I've been requested to transfer to a different guild, as of this morning. [ Like a military report. It's been some time since she's had to complete one, but it's surprisingly easy to return to the very basics. ] I'll be leaving this evening, but I wished to ... say goodbye.
Sieglinde tries not to let the emotion show on her face. Tries to focus on the task. Get drinks.
But by the time she returns with the, setting them on the table... she isn't able to smile and pretend that she isn't upset by such news. Surely... it was understandable. Though many had come and gone... Lucina had been one of the few who remained. Until now.]
... I see.
[Goodbyes. It seems she'd said "goodbye" so many times since she'd left her world. Another guild...]
It seems that your skills are in high demand here in Hathaway...

I ... not quite. Are you at your quarters at the moment? I'd like to visit, if that's alright.

Then I shall welcome you.
